Under the plan, college students in Fort Collins, including those attending Colorado State University and Front Range Community College, will be able to get Connexion’s most popular 1-gigabyte-per-second symmetrical fiber internet for $50 per month.
According to a city news release, the move makes Connexion one of the few municipal broadband providers in the country to offer segment-specific pricing, a strategy more commonly associated with large national carriers that rely on promotional rates, teaser pricing and hidden fees to attract new customers.
“Students are an important part of the Fort Collins community, and they need internet that can keep up with the way they live and learn,” Jill Marx, marketing and communications manager for Fort Collins Connexion, said in a prepared statement. “This discount helps make reliable, high-speed internet more accessible, with one straightforward student rate that stays in place as long as they’re enrolled.”
The discounted “Connexion Classic” plan includes symmetrical upload and download speeds of up to 1 gig per second, enough to handle any virtual Zoom lectures, streaming, gaming and research simultaneously. Like all Connexion plans, it comes with no data caps or throttling, free Wi-Fi router and installation, no annual contract or surprise price hikes, 24/7 local customer support based in Fort Collins, and 100% private browsing since Connexion never sells user data.
The $20 discount applies to any of the three offered Connexion residential internet plans: Classic, Enhanced, and Premier. Students who need more speed can apply the discount to the 2-gbps enhanced plan for $80 a month or the 10-gbps premier plan for $180 per month.
Students can visit fcconnexion.com/gorams to sign up and select their plan. They then are asked to verify their student enrollment through a simple form. Any enrolled student at CSU or FRCC, including online students, with a Fort Collins address is eligible.
Connexion’s student discount does not have a promotional window, and it does not use introductory pricing.
