Capital Projects Fund: Grant Project

Timeline: Completion by the end of 2026

In partnership with Fort Collins Connexion and Pulse Fiber Internet, the Larimer County community has been awarded $14 million in grant awards to enhance and expand its broadband infrastructure to an additional 1,935 locations, including areas in Rist Canyon, Red Feather Lakes, Colorado Mountain Campus, Poudre Canyon/Poudre Park, Pole Mountain, Hidden Valley Estate, and Storm Mountain. These projects have been Funded by the Capital Projects Fund of The Colorado Broadband Office.

This funding marks a pivotal moment in the county’s commitment to ensuring high-speed, reliable internet access for all residents and supports Colorado Governor Polis’ goal to connect 99% of Colorado households with reliable high-speed broadband by the end of 2027.

Connexion will be responsible for the areas in Rist Canyon, Red Feather Lakes, Colorado Mountain Campus and Poudre Canyon/Poudre Park. Construction will be complete by the end of 2026.

Update from the State of Colorado Broadband Office:

Five CPF-funded projects in Larimer County are no longer financially feasible, prompting the State to accept grant declinations from the grantees, including the City of Fort Collins. The State Office supports jurisdictions in making responsible fiscal decisions for their stakeholders and the use of federal taxpayer dollars. In the case of the Larimer County CPF awards, significant increases in make-ready costs—expenses for preparing utility poles for new equipment—have left awardees unable to complete projects solely with CPF funds. The State is constantly working on solutions to barriers obstructing deployment, particularly when such obstacles prevent residents from gaining broadband connectivity. The CBO is committed to fostering responsible project management and ensuring that public funds are used effectively.
